If you want to apply for a green card, then you must fulfill the following requirements

Your Education Level

If you want to apply for the green card lottery and diversity visa program, you must have a high school education or at least an equivalent. If you are uneducated, you must have at least two years of working experience. If you don’t fulfill any of these requirements, you can’t apply for a green card. You can read more details about education on the official website of the state department.

If you do not have a high school education and you are not sure about your work experience, if it applies to your field or not, then you can check the US Department of State Online Database ONET. Just type your profession there and click on the summary button. You will get an analysis of how many years of experience do you need in your relevant field if you want to apply for the green card.

According to the US States department’s instructions, all green card lottery applications should be filed electronically. If you make even a tiny mistake in your application, it could result in immediate disqualification. The photo requirements must be strictly followed as follows.

  • Background

    The background must be light-colored and plain

  • Size of the head

    The face (from chin to hair) must represent between 50%-69% of the photo’s total height.

  • Head position

    The head should be straight. It shouldn’t be tilted up, down, or to the sides.

  • Exposure

    Shadows cannot be shown. These should be a balanced exposure of the image.

  • Digital image alterations

    Try to avoid digital image alterations.

  • Face

    The face should be clearly visible and must not be covered with hairs.

  • Head coverings

    They are not Allowed. Except for religious reasons.

  • Glasses

    Avoid Wearing Glasses for Photo

  • Color

    Use only high quality and colored photos. Black and White photos are not acceptable.

  • Photo size

    51x51mm

  • Resolution

    600×600 pixels / 300 dpi

  • File size

    240kb Maximum

  • File format

    JPG

  • Photo age

    Your photo should not be older than six months. Your photo must reflect your current looks.

Passport for the US DV Program

In June 2019, the US government made some
amendments to the rules for participation in the
US DV Program. Now you have to enter the following
details from a valid passport:

  • Passport number
  • Passport expiration date
  • Issuing country

The applicant only requires this data, and his family members do not ask for it. Your passport must be valid until the end of the application period. If your passport expires before the green card lottery results, make sure to keep it with you or at least a copy of the invalidated passport.
